Inbound marketing manager
Canada - Remote
Company description
Fourwaves is the modern platform for scientific conferences: event websites, abstract submission, peer review, a mobile app, and payments. Our clients are universities, scholarly societies, and research centers around the world.
We’re a team of 16, 100% remote, bootstrapped, profitable, and growing. We ship fast and collaborate in our virtual office on Gather Town or during in-person retreats.
The position
We have grown mostly on word of mouth: researchers referring colleagues, one lab to the next, one university to another. It is a strong signal, and it means a large part of our acquisition potential is still untapped.
You own the two halves of getting known: being found, and staying in touch.
Being found means organic search and AI assistants. When someone looks for conference or abstract management software, in Google or in an LLM like ChatGPT, Fourwaves should be there and win. Staying in touch means the emails, newsletters, and social presence that turn a first visit into a conversation months later, because a conference is planned a year ahead and almost nobody buys on the first visit.
The scoreboard is qualified leads. Rankings, citations, open rates and followers are the means, not the goal.
What makes this job interesting:
- Strong foundations, already built. Focused content on the high-intent searches in our market, a backlink outreach pipeline, HubSpot wired to clean analytics down to the source of each lead, and a KPI dashboard that updates itself weekly. You start from a solid, instrumented base, not from zero and not from someone else’s mess.
- There is already traction. This is not a cold start: organic search is our largest traffic channel, about 200 non-brand keywords rank in Google’s top 10, and demos get booked every week by people who found us through a search or an AI assistant, with no one dedicated to the channel. The channel is proven; what is missing is an owner.
- A warm audience nobody is talking to. Tens of thousands of researchers have already used Fourwaves as authors, reviewers or participants at someone else’s conference. Many of them organize events of their own. Today we barely write to them. That is the clearest gap in our funnel and it is yours.
- The potential is much bigger. The product holds up: we grew to profitability mostly on word of mouth, our reviews sit at 4.8 on G2 and 5.0 on Capterra, and much of our market still runs on spreadsheets and legacy tools. When researchers find us, we win. Not enough of them find us yet, and that is the problem you are hired to solve.
The stack
- Surfer SEO, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager
- HubSpot for email, lists, sequences, campaigns and the CRM
- LinkedIn as our main social channel
- Everything wired together through Claude Code: our marketing site is code we can edit in minutes, and a full SEO audit runs at lightning speed
- A marketing KPI dashboard that updates itself every week
You spend your time on judgment and strategy, not on plumbing.
Your responsibilities
The key objective is to increase the number of qualified leads from organic search and from our own audience. The role requires strong strategy acumen, but also the ability to execute that strategy yourself.
- Win the searches that matter. Decide which searches we need to win, in Google and in LLMs, diagnose what winning each one takes (content depth, authority, third-party citations), and sequence the work. You own the plan and you defend it with data.
- Keep the site current and write what the strategy calls for. Our commercial pages, comparison pages and blog need to stay accurate and competitive. This is not an editorial calendar for its own sake: you write the pages the plan requires. The founder contributes where he has unique product and market insight, and you turn that into content that ranks and gets cited.
- Build our authority. Get Fourwaves cited and linked in the places Google and LLMs trust: independent listicles, software directories, industry roundups, communities like Reddit and Quora. This is outreach work, at times in collaboration with our customer success team, who own the review platforms like G2 and Capterra.
- Run the email engine. Our newsletter goes out twice a month in English and French. Beyond it, you build the nurture sequences: for leads who are not ready yet, for researchers who met the product at someone else’s event, for segments sales wants warmed up before a call.
- Own our social presence. LinkedIn first. Repurpose the best content, the product updates, and what our customers do with Fourwaves.
- Measure and readjust. Qualified leads by source, rankings, LLM citation share, engagement on the list. You are honest about what is working, you double down on it, and you cut the rest.
What this role is not
Positioning, category and brand messaging are already decided and stay with the founder. You are not starting from a blank page on who we are and what we sell. You make sure the right people find it, understand it, and keep hearing from us.
The role is hands on, not managerial. You are the marketing resource, working directly with the founder.
What we’re looking for
- A real, evidenced organic track record (3+ years in SEO). Not theory: a specific page or site you took to the top of search for a commercial-intent query, with before-and-after numbers (traffic is good, leads or signups are better) and a clear story of how.
- You have run email yourself. Sequences, segmentation, a list you grew and kept healthy. You can tell us what you sent, to whom, and what it produced. HubSpot experience is a plus, not a requirement.
- You can read a results page like a chessboard. Given a search we are losing, you can diagnose why (content, authority, or the third-party pages occupying the results) and what it would take to displace them.
- You understand where search is going. Visibility in AI answers comes from fundamentals done well, and the discipline is young and moving fast. You keep up, you test, and you are honest about what nobody knows yet. If your pitch is built on “GEO hacks,” we are not a fit.
- You write well. Clear, specific, no filler. Our audience is researchers and they notice. English is what most of the work is in; French is a real plus, since half our content ships in both languages.
- You own your results, with no excuses. When something is not working, you are the first to flag it, you dig into why, and you adjust.
- You are analytical. Comfortable with funnel data, cost per lead, and lifetime value, and your decisions follow the numbers.
- You are curious and autonomous. You form your own hypotheses, run experiments, and measure, without needing sign-off at each step.
- AI is already in your daily workflow. Our marketing stack is AI-instrumented. You pick up new tools fast and on your own.

Send us a short note and, most importantly, two concrete examples: one organic growth result you drove (the page or site, the before-and-after, exactly what you did) and one email or campaign you are proud of, with its numbers. We care far more about that than a polished cover letter. You can also write directly to Matthieu Chartier at matt@fourwaves.com.
