Our mission
The Fourwaves mission is supporting scientific events to break down the silos in research. Our vision is a world where no research presented at a scientific event stays in the room.
Academic conferences, symposia, research days and congresses are where researchers present early-stage work, meet people from outside their own lab, and start collaborations. Too often, what is presented there travels no further than the people who were in the room.
Fourwaves works on that problem from two sides. Organizers get conference management software that helps them prepare events faster and more affordably, from a 30-abstract research day to a 2,000-submission multi-track congress. Participants get more out of each event by finding the people and the work relevant to them, during and around each event.
Our story
In 2012, in Canada, four PhD students in bioinformatics created a website to simplify the logistics of a symposium and give attendees easier access to its content. Other researchers heard about the platform and asked if they could use it for their own events.
After organizing, attending, and presenting at dozens of conferences themselves, the founders realized the important role these events play in breaking down silos in science, connecting researchers, and sparking collaborations. This is how the idea of making the software available to as many research groups as possible came to be.
Fourwaves continues to support academic and research communities across the world. It has always been more than software to us: it’s a mission to help these communities thrive.
